'The mills of Nauplia', two hours from Nafplio and from Argos
1816 Proven
In his critical notes on Chateaubriand's travels, printed in Padua in 1816, the Argos physician Avramiotti wrote that 'everyone knows' Lerna is the marsh a hundred paces from 'the mills of Nauplia', at the foot of Mount Pontinos, whose water turns them in every season. The mills lay two hours from the fortress of Nafplio and two from Argos, and he clearly distinguished them from the mills of Kefalari. In everyday speech they long remained 'the mills of Nafplio'.
