The Ottoman army camps at the mills of Tziveri
21 July 1715 – 4 August 1715 Proven
On 21 July 1715, the day after Nafplio fell to the Ottomans, Grand Vizier Damat Ali Pasha moved his army away from the stench of the dead to the western end of the gulf, below a hill with the remains of an ancient city. The French interpreter Benjamin Brue, an eyewitness, saw a spring so abundant that it turned six mills through six separate channels; the local people called the place Tziveri. The army stayed until 4 August.
Note: Dates are those of Brue's French journal and so already in the new calendar.
