The telephone cable from Myloi to the Argos airfield is cut
20 May 1941 Proven
In May 1941 a German telephone line ran from Myloi along the railway, under the Xerias bridge and past the Aspida to the airfield of Argos; it served the airfield's anti-aircraft defence. A small group of young men from Argos, in contact with the British by a radio operator left behind, cut it two or three times at night. On the eve of St Constantine, 20 May 1941, they cut it in three places before an Allied air raid on the airfield that night. Local historians call this the first act of resistance in the area.
Note: The eyewitness (one of the two men, writing in 1983) speaks of German cables; Danousis (1994) speaks of the line between the Italian garrison of Myloi and the airfield, possibly the same line later.
