General Mackay leaves by flying boat at dawn
25 April 1941 Probable
Early on 25 April 1941 Major-General Iven Mackay, commander of the 6th Australian Division, flew to Crete in a Sunderland; the New Zealand official history says he left 'from Miloi'. At dawn the bay was full of smoke from ships bombed at Nafplio, and the pilot made a blind take-off through the smoke. This was a day before General Wilson's own departure.
Note: The departure by flying boat is confirmed by several sources; only McClymont names Myloi as the place (Long says 'the Argos area').
